Georgetown : The Coast Guard in collaboration detained the fishing trawler, the MV SUJAM, which was observed to be heavily listing port while putting out to sea. The move was in keeping with the Coast Guard’s remit of ensuring that seagoing vessels are in compliance with maritime safety regulations, since breaches of such regulations could endanger the lives of those aboard the vessels.
The vessel’s documentation was inspected and statement was given by the Captain of the vessel Mr. Anant Ram Sooknanan, as to the nature of the list. Following the subsequent correction of the list the vessel was allowed to leave on its passage.
