Fugitives sentenced to two years imprisonment

Georgetown Magistrate CourtGeorgetown:  Two of the fugitives who escaped from the Georgetown Magistrate Court’s lock up were Wednesday sentenced to two years imprisonment respectively when they appeared in court.

Murder accused, Randolph Marks and Steve Bacchus pleaded guilty to escaping from the holding cell. Murder accused Vickram Persaud, called ‘Lil John’, 28, of Doctor Dam, La Grange, West Bank Demerara, another escapee, was fatally shot during “an armed confrontation” with the police at about 7.20 pm on Monday.

Bacchus, was recaptured in nearby Hadfield Street shortly after fleeing the Avenue of the Republic compound, and Marks was recaptured by the police in a house at Freeman Street, East La Penitence, Georgetown on Tuesday morning.

The police said that they are continuing their efforts to recapture the remaining escapee, Keron Cummings of Sophia. Cummings is also an armed robbery accused.
