Former TT coach sues TTFF for US$1 million

Port-of-Spain: More financial prblems for the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation as former national captain and head coach Russell Latapy has taken the TTFF to court seeking close to US$1 million in outstanding salaries, damages for wrongful dismissal  and interest on those sums.

The matter between Latapy and the TTFF came up for case management in the High Court today.

According to court documents, Latapy was hired as Trinidad and Tobago's World Cup coach for a period of seven and a half months at a salary of over US$33,000 a month.

When his contract ended the TTFF agreed verbally to continue to pay him  until such time as another formal agreement was reached.

In March 2010 the TTFF through Special Advisor Jack Warner and General Secretary Richard Groden entered into an oral agreement to pay Latapy the same salary for a period oftwo years.

The document claims Latapy performed his duties, but was informed by letter dated 8th April 2011, that his services were terminated.

Latapy is now claiming compensation for wrongful dismissal and outstanding payments with interest.

He is also demanding interest at 12 percent on any sums awarded from the date of judgement.

The matter will come up for hearing on March 23rd.
