Former CLICO chairman suing newspaper

Bridgetown.

Leroy Parris, the former chairman of CLOCO Holding Barbados Limited is suing the Nation Publishing Company, the publishers of the Nation newspaper for defamation.

The writ was filed in the Superme Court yesterday morning by lawyers Michael Yearwood, Hal Gollop and Steven Gollop.

According to the writ, the defamation occured in the Weekend Nation on February 24 and on March 9, it alleges that in the first article, the newspaper stated Parris was missing and was therefore frustrating court marshalls in their attempt to serve him with court documents related to criminal charges brough against him.

The court documents stated after the first article, Yearwood wrote the newspaper informing them that Parris was not avoiding the court marshalls.

Despite Yearwood's letter, the Nation Newspaper on March 9 published a story claiming that Parris was seen at a gas station and  still alledged that marshall could not find him.

Parris is suing the newspaper for generaland exemplary damages.
