First lady, denounced abuse and exploitation of children

First Lady, Deolatchmee RamotarGeorgetown: First Lady, Deolatchmee Ramotar has denounced the abuse and exploitation of children, as Guyana observes world day against child labour today.

She has commended the efforts of the International Labour Organization (ILO) in strengthening initiatives to reduce child labour, which still exists in many parts of the world.

This year, the ILO has decided to cast the spotlight on the exploitation of children in domestic work.

Mrs. Ramotar says while she supports the need for children to assist their parents in the home, the employment of children is detested.

The first lady says children should have the liberty of using their free time to play and have fun in the company of other children.
