East Indians overcame challenges and contributed to development-PPP

PPPGeorgetown: The People’s Progressive Party extends greetings to all Guyanese as our nation observes Arrival Day, May 5th 2013.

“This significant day offers us the opportunity to reflect on the important but harrowing journey and the sacrifices of our ancestors who were brought from different nations and how they managed to overcome those challenges and contributed to the development of Guyana.” the party noted in a statement. “ Today, our nation finds itself at the cross roads where we are in unchartered waters in terms of our development and in advancing the interests of our people. We cannot afford to squander this opportunity as it is a disservice to the struggles of our ancestors during slavery and indentureship as well as during the pre and post-independence period. They made many sacrifices, including with their lives to pass on a better future for us to build on.”

The People’s Progressive Party itself is an example of that fusion of culture and diversity which has served to give our nation that unique identity.

The party urges all Guyanese to join in celebrating this important aspect of our fore-parents legacy.

A Happy Arrival Day to all!
