Berbice: Two persons are left homeless after an early morning fire today destroyed a home at Vryman’s Erven, New Amsterdam. Reports the fire started in the wee hours of the morning. The house was occupied by a young couple.
It was further revealed that the male partner returned home in a drunken stated and an argument ensued. This resulted in his girlfriend locking herself in a bedroom to avoid any further physical abuse which would normally occur. The man in a rage decided to set the building afire to force the woman out of the room, after doing such he escaped. However, the woman sustained burns to the body while escaping the gutted building. She was treated at the New Amsterdam Hospital. Fire fighters were summoned to scene and were able to contain the blaze.
