Don’t fear me says Garica

Bridgetown.

Raul  Garica says Barbadians  have nothing to fear from him being in their midst.

The former drug courier who was released from the custody of the Immgration Department last week, held a 75 minute press conference at the Clement Payne in Bridgetown

“People know my face. Everyone in Barbados knows what I look like. I think it would be disloyal to a country that has done so much for me to do something against it again.

“I would be ashamed to do something like that to people who have been so good to me in the last 20 years,” Garcia said.

He was released into the custody of an elderly Barbadian couple who live in St John, after High Court judge Justice Margaret Reifer ruled a deportation order bearing his name had exhausted its shelf life.

Garcia had been initially released from Her Majesty’s Prisons Dodds on March 10, 2010, but had remained in the custody of the Immigration Department at a special detention centre before earning his release last week.

"I am comfortable and I am happy to be free.I have always been told Barbadian people have a great heart, and I am seeing that every day. I feel grateful to the people of Barbados for accepting me in the way they have", the Cuban said.

"I wish to clam any fears people may have about me being in their society. That is why I am here today", he added.

Garica, 59, wiped away tears intermittently while he spoke to the press.050313_Garcia_2038_1-450x350-3
