Cuban Ambassador to Barbados Lissette Peréz Peréz re-empahsised her country's commitment to working with local health officials in the area of diabetes management in an effort to reduce the number of amputations carried out on the island.
She made the statement during a courtesy visit to Minister of Health, John Boyce, at his office in Culloden Road, St. Michael.
The Ambassador said the consulate enjoyed "strong communication and relations" with the Ministry of Health and hoped to continue this under Boyce's tenure.
In addition to diabetic treatment, Ambassador Peréz Peréz said she was interested in working with the Ministry's Vector Control Unit to discuss biological methods of controlling the local mosquito population.
The Minister said he welcomed the opportunity to engage with the ambassador on these issues and was eager to discuss "the matter of Barbadian students who studied in Cuba but remained unregistered here".
Barbados and Cuba established diplomatic relations in December, 1972.
