Court stops lawmen promotions

Bridgetown.

High Court Judge Eleneth Kentish, yesterday granted an injunction against the Commissioner of Police, the Police Service, Commission (PSC) and the Attorney General prohibiting the publication of promotions of police officers until the full hearing of a writ filed by several police officers  questioning their omission from the promotions list has been heard in the Court.

Last month, 15 police officers filed a writ against the  PSC ,  Commissioner of Police and the Attorney General respectively, charging that their omission from the promotions list breached the principles of natural justice and was an abuse of power.

They accused the PSC and the Attorney General of acting on instructions from unauthorized  persons and acting on political considerations.

The  officers filed  writ  three weeks ago when the promotions of their colleagues were announced forcing the cancellation of the commissioner's formal announcement and ceremony.

The matter has been referred to case management before the Master of the Courts.
