Convicted murderer released from prison

Bridgetown.

Carlisle Trotman is a free man, he was released from Her Majesty's Prison Dodds yesterday after being in jail for 28 years.

Trotman, 50 was convicted on February 5, 1986 of murdering Michael Cox, of Rendezvous, Christ Church, sometime between July 1 and 9, 1985 and was sentenced to hang.

On May 26, the Court of Appeal dismissed his appeal and confirmed his death  sentence. Two years later, on December 17, 1989, that sentence was commuted to life in prison.

Last Friday, his attorney Arthur Holder received a letter signed by Governor General Sir Elliott Belgrave informing him of Trotman's freedom.

Trotman, who learned to draw in prison, won several gold awards at NIFCA and has also won the Irvin Payne, Karl Broodhagen and the Prime Minister Prize among others for his work.
