Concerns continue to mount as more controversy surround the Amaila Falls Hydro Project.

Georgetown: It started with a breach of contract and delays in the construction of the access road leading to the much anticipated Amaila Falls Hydro Project. The firm Synergy Holdings under Fip Motilal was admonished by Government for the delay and suggestions were raised for him to sub contract some of the work in an effort to meet required deadlines. The Government is expected to institute penalties enshrined in the agreement if the contract is breached.

Head of the Presidential Secretariat has questioned the license given to the firm Sithe Global which has acquired 100 percent interest in the US$700 Million project from Synergy Holdings, the original developer. It is required that a new license be crafted with the other developer instead of the old one signed some 13 years ago that is believed to be ammended to allow provisions for Sithe Global.

The development which is expected to generate 165 megawatts of power for the national grid has been thrown in much controversies. Now Government is hoping that the new developer will bring the project to maturity.
