This was disclosed during a recent outreach with youths at the Dartmouth community center where the commander interacted with over 45 unemployed men and women.
“There are a number of unemployed and early school leavers at Dartmouth,” the commander said.
Noting that the upcoming career Day Fair will be held at Damon square Anna Regina, Commander Mansell encouraged the young adults to take advantage of the opportunity since being gainfully employed can create many avenues of further development in life.
Some of the agencies expected to be at the Career Day Fair are from the Guyana Revenue Authority, Lands and surveys, Guyana Forestry Commission, Guyana Energy Agency, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education, Republic Bank, Guyana Elections Commission, Guyana Defense Force, Police Force and the Fire Service amongst others from the private sector.
Meanwhile, the commander noted that evidence greatly suggests that the lack of jobs amongst youths and increases in poverty lead to increased violent crime. He explained that high unemployment rate among the youth has huge implications for crime and violence and it is the duty of law enforcement to assist the youths to stay focus in order to build a better society.
