Closed Magistrates’ Court affecting justice

Bridgetown.

The temporary closure of the of the No.1 Magistrates' Court in Bridgetown has affected the country's ability to offer justice, says president of Barbados Bar Association Andrew Pilgrim.

Last April the Court was closed for temporary repairs, after a mold was discovered on the wall.Since then Magistrate Graveney Bannister who preside in the Court has conducting business in the Traffic Court or the Number 2 Court after they finish sitting.

"This has gone on for too long, something should have been done by now. We have someone ready to work, instead he has to scotch for a spot in another court to get his job done. That is not good enough", Pilgrim told Trakker News.

"The wheels of justice have been slowed down significantly, we have a situation where one third of the magistrate's system is unable to function properly because of this and what makes it worse it that we have magistrate not just ready to work but willing to work long hour", he added.
