Chef accused of rape to return in October assizes

BVI : The matter involving Oswin Barker, the chef accused of rape, was today, July 3 traversed to the October criminal assizes.

Following the decision, Justice Albert Redhead extended the defendant’s $75,000 bail that was signed with two sureties along with other requisites.

It is alleged that the 37-year-old committed the act sometime between March 21 and 22, 2012 at the Brandywine Bay beach.

The court heard that the defendant had allegedly taken the VC and her friend to a bar in Long Bush, and sometime after he took the VC’s friend home but drove past the VC’s residence to the Brandywine Bay area, even though the complainant protested.

The complainant allegedly asked the defendant where he was going and he reportedly told her he wanted to speak to her. She allegedly asked the defendant to take her home, stating that she was sleepy and tired.

It was stated that Barker told the VC that he liked her a lot and asked her if she couldn’t see that. He also reportedly told her that he would do anything for her and that’s why he and his girlfriend were not presently on good terms.

During the alleged rape, the VC reportedly punched the defendant in his face and bit him in his chest.

It was announced that when officers informed the defendant of the report that had been made against him he said: “Me not me officer, I never raped that girl.” However, the defendant stated that he did have sexual intercourse with the VC on more than one occasion and announced that the VC was his girlfriend.
