Chairman of ruling party under forgery investigation – PM confirms

St. George’s, Grenada: Prime Minister, Tillman Thomas, has confirmed reports that police are investigating forgery allegations against the chairman of his ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kenrick Fullerton, according to an Antigua Observer report.

Prime Minister, Thomas, told reporters before leaving for New York to attend celebrations marking Grenada’s 38th independence anniversary, “I am aware that there is an investigation going on. I am not aware of the extent of that investigation.”

Detectives of the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) were investigating Fullerton, who is also an advisor in the Ministry of Youth Empowerment and Sports. Police are investigating whether Fullerton forged the signature of a senior public servant in the ministry to withdraw money from a local bank.

The Observer said that Thomas, who was campaigned against Fullerton becoming Party Chairman at the NDC’s last annual convention said he did not initiate the investigation and that he was not going to intervene. “I had a discussion with (Fullerton). I told him I do not interfere with the organs of the state. They have their work to do… they have to do what is required of them .I would not interfere with any process…There is a process. The legal system will take its course. I would not interfere or disrupt the legal system”, the Prime Minister said.
