Burnt out Parfait Harmonie Primary School gets $14M for repairs

Georgetown : The Ministry of Finance has made available $14M to effect repairs to the section of the Parfait Harmonie Primary school, which was destroyed by fire in March, Minister of Local Government and Regional Development Ganga Persaud disclosed.

The Minister said that this sum, it is estimated, would restore the burnt-out section, and assist with the other infrastructure works necessary to restore the school to its former state.

According to Minister Persaud, the repairs are expected to commence as soon as the Education Ministry advertises for tenders. He said too that the construction will be done in a manner that classes will not be disrupted.

The fire broke out at the school that was commissioned in 2011 at a cost of $60M during the sitting of the National Grade Six Assessment examination. The students were later allowed to write the exams that were disrupted.
