Attorney General says Trinidad is dragging its feet on fishing agreement

Bridgetown.

Attorney General of Barbados Adriel Brathwaite has accused the Government of Trinidad and Tobago of dragging its feet on reaching a fishing agreement between the two countries.

Speaking in the House of Assembly yesterday Brathwaite said while members of the Opposition were constantly questioning why no deal had yet been reached, Barbados has been waiting on officials in Trinidad.

"To reach an agreement you need both parties to agree and from time to time based on my knowledge of those negotiations, we have had difficulty with getting our brothers and sisters in Trinidad to come to the table so that we can have a meaningful agreement in place", Brathwaite said.

"Whereas as a country we want to have an agreement in place, we cannot say that the otherside had moving with the kind of speed that we would like them to and frankly, it is not a case where we had the type of leverage, in my opinion that we could force them to give us the kind of agreement that we would like", the Attorney General added.aa gg...
