Attack on rats

Bridgetown.

The Ministry of Health has launched a comprehensive programme to reduce the rat population in Bridgetown and the surrounding areas  over the next 12 months.

Senior Environmental Health Officer in the Vector Control Unit Maurice Gaskin, told Trakker News environmental officers from six of the island's polyclinics had combined to conduct a new baiting programme in Bridgetown and Christ Church areas.

"We will be going all out to make a massive dent in the rat population of Bridgetown, we have done a good job so far in reducing the population over the last year, the stakeholders involved recognize the importance of the City as a tourist area and a World Heritage Site and decided to increase the efford", says Gaskin.

The rat population in Bridgetown is estimated to be in the region of one million.
