Berbice : Three shotgun bandits yesterday morning entered the home of a Corentyne family and carted off an undisclosed amount of cash and gold jewellery, during which the family of three fled their home by jumping off a shed; in the process of fleeing, the bandits discharged several rounds at the victims, hitting one of them in the right region of his body.
A police statement revealed that the victims: a 42 yr. businessman, his wife, 40 and their 19-year-old son were sleeping in the lower flat of the house, when they were aroused by a loud sound about 02:15hrs; on investigating they observed the men breaking a southern window located in the said lower flat.
The victims immediately rushed upstairs and exited the building by jumping from a shed; in the process the bandits discharged several rounds in their direction, resulting in the husband being injured. The house was subsequently ransacked and the valuables taken.
The businessman and his wife whose legs are injured as a result of her jumping off the shed, are currently admitted patients at a Regional Hospital. Their condition is said to be stable.
No arrests have been made at this time. Investigation in progress.
