Georgetown : A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) today calls for there to be an independent investigation in the firing of several workers of the Guyana Energy Agency (GEA).
APNU in a previous release noted concern about the use of the polygraph by the GEA, and its inherent unreliability and inadmissibility in many judicial jurisdictions in the United States of America.
Several of the terminated GEA employees visited the Office of the Leader of the Opposition. They reported that due to the nature of their termination they were finding great difficulty in securing employment; many feel that they have been black listed.
A number of these individuals with the help of Attorney at Law Mr. Basil Williams have filed nine writs of summons in the High Court against the Guyana Energy Agency. The employees are seeking damages in excess of one hundred thousand dollars ($100,000.00) for wrongful termination; severance pay/redundancy; damages in excess of one hundred thousand dollars ($100,000.00) for mental stress. The terminated employees are also seeking to be reinstated.
The writs were issued by Attorney at Law Mr. Basil Williams, MP, on the 12th July 2013.
