Anti-corruption, transparency needed in Mining sector-President

Georgetown: Calls for anti-corruption and transparency measures are being made by President Donald Ramotar and Minister of Natural resources Robert Persaud in the natural resources sector.

This was disclosed Wednesday morning at the opening of a seminar on Sustainable Development of Extractive Industry organized by the Ministry of Natural Resources and the UNDP.

President Ramotar noted that anti corruption measures as well as greater transparency in the management of Guyana’s extractive industry, particularly mining is needed to develop the sector.

The Head of State also stated that the natural resources sector development must take into account the need for effective environmental and ecological position.
