AG initiaties legal action against former Udecott boss

Port-of-Spain: The government is taking legal  action against former Udecott Chairman Calder Hart.

Attorney General Anand Ramlogan told the media this afternoon that the legal action was filed in the Supreme Court today.

It has taken the government just under two years to fulfill this particular campaign promise.

Speaking at a news conference held in the Committee Room of the Parliament, Ramlogan  told the media that the legal action is being taken against Hart based on the recommendations of the Uff Commission of Inquiry.

Hart is being sued on three counts including mismanagement of the Brian Lara stadium project, the breach of his duty to the Udecott board and concealing family connection in relation to the contract for the Legal Affairs towers.

Ramlogan said when the Pre-Action Protoclol Letter was sent in October last year Calder Hart responded by asking for several documents from Udecott which were given to him but that seven months later Hart is yet to refute the allegations.

The evaluation of the stadium is expected to take approximately two more months.

Ramlogan said in the first instance a letter will be sent to Hart's son to see if he will be willing to accept the proceedings on his behalf and if not Hart will have to either send legal representation or appear in person.

The Attorney General added that government only has power to initiate civil proceedings however he is certain the police are investigating criminal matters arising out of the Uff report.
