Accuse in Insurance executive’s murder for High Court Trial

Georgetown: Clive Knights, charged with the murder of insurance executive Bert Whyte was committed to stand trial at the High Court Thursday afternoon.

Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine- Beharry presided over the Preliminary Inquiry (PI) in the lower court.

Knights on May 14, 2012 stabbed Whyte to death. He was not granted bail when he appeared before the court.

Forty-five year old Whyte was a Guyana and Trinidad Mutual Life (GTM) Insurance Company employee.

Ten persons testified in the trial.  Prosecutor Denis Griffith said on the day in question at 19:25 hrs the deceased and the accused who are friends were in the vicinity of Main Street, Georgetown when a scuffle ensued.  The accused stabbed Whyte several times about the body and ran away. Whyte fell in front of a popular night spot before being transported to Public Hospital where he succumbed.

Knights was charged after four months on the run. He was caught in a routine police check at Yarrowkabra on the Soesdyke/Linden Highway.
