Privatisation for the people says Arthur

Bridgetown.

Leader of the Oppostion Owen Arthur wants Barbadians to be shareholders in some enterprises in the country.

Speaking at a Barbados Labour Party Christ Church East branch meeting at the St Christopher Primary School, the former Prime Minister said this is the thinking behind his recent proposals for the privatisation of state assets.

"The ideal is that if the public has shares through privatisation, then they have a vested interest and would therefore act to increase productivity and efficiency creating overall profits", Arthur explained.

"we must restore good governance to this country but also deal with the conversion of problems into opportunities by seeing the involvement of our people in enterprises that are currently owned by the state as an important part of the way forward", he added.
