$19B slashed from LCDS Budget allocation

Dr SinghGeorgetown : Of the more than $73B of funding allocated to various projects falling under the Ministry of Finance, $19B was slashed from the allocation of $20B provided for Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS) initiatives. The allocation fell under the Capital funding for the Finance Ministry to which a total of $24.7B was allocated.

Questions posed by A Partnership for National Unity Members of Parliament targeted the allocations to Amerindian communities under the Amerindian Development Fund (ADF).

The Alliance for Change focused their questions on the Amaila Falls project and the Inter American Development (IDB) funding and suggested that funding for this project be withheld until such time as the release and approval of the actual funds by the bank later this year.

Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh argued that the budget addresses projected income and expenditures for the year which includes the IDB expected funding. However, the argument was defeated and the combined opposition voted to slash the allocation.

The $19B cut was made against the LCDS, the Guyana Redd + Investment Fund (GRIF) projects include the Amaila Falls Hydro, the Amerindian Development Fund,  Amerindian Land Demarcation, and the Small Business and Micro Enterprise, all very important projects.
