Wreath laying, flag raising ceremonies commencesGuyana’s 49th Independence Anniversary

1911162_1491391814434811_3462694850908026333_oGeorgetown: The National Independence Monument will be the focus of the first major activity in observance of Guyana’s 49th Independence Anniversary. The newly renovated and enhanced Independence Arch at upper Brickdam was the venue for the wreath laying ceremony as Guyanese celebrate the country’s Independence which was achieved on May 26, 1966 from Great Britain.

It commenced at 07:30hr, the programme will include the marching in of the Guard of Honour, followed by the arrival of special invitees. After this, there will be the arrival of Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo which will precede the arrival of President David Granger.

The programme will then officially begin with the Presidential Salute, the blowing of the last post, and two minutes of silence followed by the reveille. The last post and the reville will be blown by a trumpeter from the Guyana Defence Force. This will be followed by the laying of wreaths in honour of the Independence Freedom fighters.
