World Bank’s StAR to assist Guyana to recover state assets

Georgetown : The World Bank’s Stolen Asset Recovery Agency (StAR) is currently in Guyana, and has started engaging persons from Government, Civil Society, the Judiciary and all agencies that can advise on what needs to be done with respect to the recovery of stolen assets.  Minister of State, Joseph Harmon explained that Cabinet was advised that the scoping mission will meet with all of the relevant agencies to craft an action plan. The mission will return back to Guyana on March 28 and present, and work out the plan with the State Asset Recovery Unit (SARU).

StAR is a partnership between the World Bank Group and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) that supports international efforts to end safe havens for corrupt funds. StAR works with developing countries and financial centers to prevent corruption and to facilitate more systematic and timely return of stolen assets.
