Woman’s body remains unidentified

ST JOHN’S, Antigua : As lawmen continue to work towards identifying the body of a woman that washed up on the shores near Devil’s Bridge on Saturday, they have reportedly turned to fingerprint experts who will examine the victim’s prints and search the police database for a match.

Sources said the dead woman’s prints were taken late yesterday and up to press time there were no reports of a missing person.

The deceased appeared to be in her 20s, of medium build, approximately five feet four inches in height and dark in complexion, police said.

The body was found nude, on its back on the rocky shoreline of the beach near the tourist attraction.

A brassiere was found hanging on the victim’s right arm. Police sources said decomposition was slight to moderate and the body had already begun to swell.

There were a number of bruises about the corpse but investigators said a post mortem would have to determine what caused them.

Sources said it could have been exposure to elements, rough waters or injuries associated with a violent encounter.

A coroner’s inquest is scheduled for today.
