Mt Hope: An on-the-job trainee has been sexually assaulted at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex.
Police reports are that just after 9am, the female OJTt attached to the Pediatric Unit, went to the third floor of the Pediatric Ward, which is an isolated ward where only two members of staff are assigned.
Investigators say on reaching the corridor of the third floor the trainee was accosted by a man who shoved her into a room where she was assaulted.
The man is said to have tied her hands but she was able to alert the two other employees who were on the third floor. The female OJT was sent the Women's Hospital where she is receiving treatment and counselling.
Chairman of the Public Services Association's (PSA) section at the hospital, Keith Bailey says security issues on the compound are of grave concern to staff and patients.
He said this incident could have been avoided had the authorities accepted the recommendations the PSA over the years to address safety issues.
