Woman killed and dumped in fig patch

Port of Spain; The nude body of a woman partially covered in leaves and whose throat had been slit, was discovered in a fig patch in Laventille yesterday. Around 6am Besson Street Police and Inter Agency Task Force responded when a report was made that a body was seen in a fig patch behind a house at Light Pole 47, Wharton Street Laventille.

The body of the woman was eventually identified as that of 32 year old Candice Joseph who lived one building away from where they found her body. Investigators were informed the woman had been involved in an argument with a man at a bar in the area the night before. They were also informed that she might have been killed by the male suspect with whom she once shared an intimate relationship. The police said they received information that prior to her death Joseph got several threats from the suspect but they were never reported to the Besson Street Station.

Police searched the area for the suspect, but he remained at large. Joseph's body was eventually moved and ordered to be taken to the Forensic Science Centre, St James. An  autopsy is expected to be carried out tomorrow.
