Veterinary Diagnostic Lab 55% completed

Georgetown : Minister of Agriculture Dr. Leslie Ramsammy disclosed that construction of the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory at Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara is 55 percent completed.

The Minister, who visited the facility yesterday, said that he was assured by the contractors that the lab will be completed in its entirety by the end of November.

The equipment for the lab has already been procured and is awaiting installation, the Minister said.

The lab is a US$2.5M investment, which is expected to strengthen the overall animal health system and advance the livestock sector, while increasing production for local consumption and export.

It will be equipped to test for brucellosis which is caused by bacteria and affects mainly animals, including goats, sheep, pigs, cattle and dogs, bovine (cattle) diseases, leptospirosis and tuberculosis among others.
