Verus International regrets its public suggestions that the company was involved in merchant banking.
In a statement to the media Verus said it has received correspondence from the Central Bank of Barbados setting out its objections to the use of the term merchant bank to describe its commercial activities.
The statement said Verus is a private investment firm licensed under the International Business Companies Act in Barbados since 1999.
"Any statement or misunderstanding to the contary is regretted", the statement.
Earlier this week, the Central Bank warned investors that Verus was not licensed to conduct banking activities in Barbados.
