‘V’ Hotel proposals; brand new Demerara River Bridge on cards

Guyana’s Ministry of Tourism is currently reviewing ‘five proposals’ to build International Hotels located on the environs of the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA).
This was confirmed earlier today by the acting Minister of Tourism Industry and Commerce, Irfaan Ally.
The Minister while not elaborating on details in the proposals, said that they are premised on the expansion of CJIA.
He says that this is in addition to the proposed Marriott International Hotel to be built in Georgetown.
The contracts have been inked for this venture but the administration is still struggling to secure additional investors for the proposed US$52M edifice.
Public Works Minister Robeson Benn, has also indicated the administration is looking to construct a brand new bridge across the Demerara River.
Benn says that the bridge project is among a list of priority projects for the administration, but at the time a recent China Exim Bank Loan was being made available to Guyana, “only the airport project was ready.”
Recently a section of the 34 year-old Demerara Harbour Bridge (DHB) gave way and sank, crippling heavy duty and cargo transport across the river for several days.
The two Cabinet Ministers were at the time participating in a special ‘Seven Part debate on Corruption’ in Guyana.
The discourse will continue in the coming week.
