Georgetown : Minister of Home Affairs, Clement Rohee expressed his disappointment with People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) Presidential Candidate, David Granger’s attempts to score political points by embellishing recent criminal.
The Minister said that while recently there has been rise in gun crimes in which persons were killed, this situation cannot be used as a barometer to measure the extent to which the crimes exist in Guyana.
He maintained that politicising this situation would send the wrong signal to criminals, something that Granger seems to be leading towards.
With regards to Granger’s claims that the business community is the hardest hit, Minister Rohee said Government is constantly engaging the business community particularly, the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce (GCC), Private Sector Commission (PSC) and other business entities, and that their concerns as it relates to security are never ignored by Government.
“It is true that the persons who are affected are from the business community and we are deeply concerned about this as well but to latch on to the crime situation and make it a political football is threading on dangerous ground and sending the wrong signal to those in society who are bent on deviant behaviour,” Minister Rohee reiterated.
