US Peace Corps Guyana Pays Courtesy Call on Minister Robert Persaud

PersaudGeorgetown: The new Country Director of Peace Corps Ms. Linda Arbogast met with the Natural Resources and Environment Minister Hon. Robert M. Persaud in a courtesy call to examine areas of potential collaboration in the Natural Resources & Environment field.

 During the discussion several initial areas of collaboration were identified, these include; environmental awareness activities in school with an emphasis on waste management, strengthening the Three Parks Initiative Programme of the Protected Areas Commission and the monitoring and evaluation of the natural resources and environmental sector.

 Further, the US Peace Corps has expressed an interest in collaborating with the various environmental institutions of the Ministry.

 The US Peace Corps provides support to developing nations in the form of technical support in various areas such as education, health and environment.  Their work in Guyana spans more than 40 years and currently there are volunteers stationed in Regions 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 with additional volunteers expected in April.
