Update: Donald Ramotar confirmed as PPP/C Presidential Candidate.

Georgetown: Just minutes ago information out of Freedom House is that General Secretary of the Ruling PPP has been elected the presidential candidate ahead of this year's general elections. The head of the Presidential Secretariat Dr. Roger Luncheon told the press that Ramotar was unanimously selected without any form of voting. This is because the other candidates Ralph Ramkarran, Gail Texeira and Clement Rohee withdrew, a move that is surprising by some in the party.

However, Dr. Luncheon said that the decision taken by the Central Committee will be endorsed at conferences slated for the various counties. There was high hopes by some party members and supporters that Ralph Ramkarran would have been elected, despite the expectations that Ramotar was favored in the early stages of the party preparations to nominate a candidate. Ramotar served the PPP as General Secretary since 1997.
