Union to monitor appointment of teachers

President of the Barbados Union of Teachers (BWU), Pedro Shepherd says the union will monitor the appointment process of teachers closely to make sure that no teacher is disadvantaged.

Shepherd  says the union is in the final stages of compiling the names of all un-appointed teachers, with a view of making representation to the Ministry of Civil Service  through the Ministry of Education – to have all or most of these teachers appointed.

However, he noted that there is an advertisement from the Personnel Administration Division which is being sent to the schools, requesting teachers to collect the necessary forms for consideration for appointment.

He says the ad notes that part of the selection process might include an interview.

Mr. Shepherd says the union has extended the deadline for schools to present the names of the temporary teachers. He adds that they will also be holding a meeting to discuss appointments among other issues.
