Union call on Government to comply with safety and health laws

Bridgetown.

The National Union of Public Workers (NUPW) ,is calling on the Government to comply with its own occupational safety and health laws and ensure that safety measures are in place for roadside crews of the Ministry of Transport and following the death  Carlene Stuart yesterday.

 Stuart, 65, was part of the MTW’s Drainage Unit on the job around 8:40 a.m. clearing bush from the side of the road in Blowers, St James, on the Ronald Mapp Highway, when two vehicles were involved in an accident. It was unclear if one or both cars struck Stuart.

Deputy General Secretary of the NUPW, Rosaling Smith told Trakker News these workers need better safety provisions.
