UNAG, groups to host community consultations

UN (2)Georgetown:  Under the theme Harmonising our Environment for Peace, Reconciliation and Development ,the United Nations Association of Guyana (UNAG) in cooperation with several groups and persons on the East Coast will host a Community Consultation at the  Guyana Women’s Institute Cove and John East Coast Demerara on Saturday 14th September  2013 from 8 A.M to 3 : 30 P.M, The Regional Democratic Council Chairman  has been invited to declare open the Consultation.

Matters to be addressed at the community consultation for discussion and dialogue will include Peace and Security in the Community, Economic and Social Development, Culture, Religion and Morals in the Community  within these subject area.  Participants will be encouraged to identify particular matters which require attention in order to improve conditions in their communities and to promote a  harmonised environment for sustaining peace, reconciliation and development among the people of their communities. 

The event is one of several outreach programmes being promoted by the Association to encourage dialogue and interaction within the Guyanese communities , with the objective of focusing attention on the rights and responsibilities of Government and Civil Society in relation to older persons, women and children, youth and persons with disabilities in the environment of respective communities, in accordance with standards, principles and ideals of the United Nations.

Presenters and facilitators will be members of UNAG and residents of the East Coast of Demerara.

During the past years the United Nations Association has conducted programmes for enhancing human rights, peace and reconciliation among people in several communities in Demerara, Berbice and Essequibo. Those initiatives have been facilitated by assistance from United Nations Development Programme(UNDP), The European Union(EU), Canadian International  Development  Agency(CIDA) and the United States Agency for International Development(USAID).
