UG Science and Technology project to be made available

Georgetown : Presidential Advisor on Governance, Gail Teixeira, standing in for Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Roger Luncheon at the weekly post-Cabinet press briefing today announced that the University of Guyana’ (UG’s) Science and Technology Project Steering Committee has been appointed.

This will pave the way for the first tranche of the money under the university’s Science and Technology Project to be made available.

This US$10M project was approved in June last year by the World Bank; however, Government was given an 18-month period within which to satisfy certain conditions. This includes the establishment of the Steering Committee.

This five-year project is closely linked to Guyana’s Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS) and will be based in four Science faculties: Agriculture and Forestry, Natural Sciences, and the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences.

It will see the improvement of laboratory and building infrastructure at the four faculties comprising 14 buildings; providing the laboratories with scientific equipment to enable the delivery of practical science education and research; and establishing of a campus wide internet network.
