Two day meeting of Financial Units heads held in Antigua

  Heads of Financial Intelligence Units from the English-speaking Caribbean held a two day meeting of best practices and experiences in asset forfeiture, money laundering, and proceedings of crime at the Jolly Beach Resort this week.

The conference was facilitated  by the Office of National Drug and Money Laundering Policies (ONDCP) and funded by the UK Department for International Development’s Caribbean Criminal Assets Recovery Programme (CCARP).  



The meeting began on April 3 began with welcoming remarks from Director of ONDCP, Lt Col Edward Croft, and remarks by Jeffery Robinson, world renowned  author and presenter of a number of money laundering publications, while Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer presented the feature address.

Among the specially invited guests at the ceremony were Minister of Finance and The Economy Harold Lovell, Chief Justice of The Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court Janice Pereira, Eamon Kearney, director of the UK Caribbean Criminal Asset Recovery Programme (CCARP), Rev Pauline Burns, who presented the invocation, and a number of government officials, along with the delegates.



This meeting with representatives from 13 countries was considered to be unique due to the level of discussion, and is considered the largest meeting of the heads of the Regional FIUs since it also included persons from the US and British Virgin Island Islands and the French territories.


The meeting ended yesterday.
