Two charged with stealing water from national grid

Chaguanas: Two men will appear before a Chaguanas magistrate on June 21st charged with making an illegal water connection to the Water and Sewerage Authority's (WASA's) distribution system at a development off Madras Road, Cunupia.

The two have been identified as general contractor Ameer Razack and labourer Learie Stoute.

The two men were reportedly caught committing the crime by WASA's Chief Executive Officer Ganga Singh, on Friday evening.

WASA estate police were alerted and one one of the suspects was arrested at the scene, while the other sped off in a flatbed truck. He was however subsequently charged. WASA has been seeking to crack down on the number of illegal connections to its pipeline network.

Within recent times several exercises have been conducted throughout the country, aimed at identifying, removing and regularising such connections.
