TUCO wants nation’s highest award for Sparrow

Port-of-Spain: The national awards are five weeks away and already the Trinbago Unified Calyponians Organisation (TUCO) is making its appeal for the country's highest award to be bestowed on Calypsonian Sliger "The Mighty Sparrow" Francisco

TUCO says it is refreshed in its lobby for the highest award, the Order of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago to be conferred on Sparrow who they describe as a bright force in the calypso world for nearly 60 years and his acheivements and exploits are stuff of which only legends are made.

The Mighty Sparrow has received several honours including the Order of the Caribbean as well as an Honourary Doctor of Letters from the University of the West Indies.

TUCO says if the country is to bestow the award on Sparrow it would make the 49th Indpendence Anniversary more meaningful and would serve to give a lasting tribute to one of the world's leading artistes.
