Tropical wave approaching Barbados

A tropical wave that could become a tropical strom within the next 24 hours is  approaching Barbados.

According to the  Barbados Meteorological Office l the island could be in for scattred showers with possible thunder showers.

Barbadians were first alerted to the approaching system when the Met Office issued a statement at noon yesterday.

It said at that time that the system had the potential to generate “some moderate to heavy showers, scattered thunderstorms and gusty winds” as it moved across Barbados late today into tomorrow.

At 8 o’clock last night, the tropical wave was located about 1 050 miles east-southeast of the Windward Islands and was moving west-northwestward at around 25 mph.

Deputy Director of the Department of Emergency Management Kerry Hinds, said last night the emergency services have been put on standby,

She urged the public to listen to their radio and to make all of the necessary preparations.

This is hurricane season, so we urge Barbadians to be prepared,” Hinds said.
