Trinidadians in Boston explosion safe

 boston  Port of Spain; The 117 th Boston Marathon was going according to plan yesterday with its 25,000 participants. It is said to be one of the world's oldest and most major marathons. The event has an estimated 500,000 spectators annually, but tragedy struck yesterday when the event was marred by two explosions at the finish line that left two people dead and several others injured. 

 All four Trinidadians who competed in the Boston Marathon are reported as safe. Among the 25,000 who participated in the Boston Marathon yesterday there were four Trinidad and Tobago citizens, The four are Marlon Bascombe, 32, Ingrid Mathison, 50 Learie Lezama, 53, and Christopher Battoo, 32. 

Lezama is the only one who resides in Trinidad presently, the other three live in various parts of the United States. According to Lezama's son Kariym who also has an uncle who resides in the US, " I was not able to talk to him myself but I have been told he is fine," Christopher Batto however, said he was safe via twitter. both Batto and Lezama finished the race prior to the explosion. The other two, Bascombe and Mathison, according to results from the Boston Athletic Association, apparently never reached the finish line.

It is reported that approximately four hours, nine minutes and 49 seconds into the race, the explosions occurred. Mr. Neil Parsons, Trinidad and Tobago's Ambassador to the United States said they are currently pursuing information to determine the status of both the participants as well as spectators from this country.
