Georgetown: Commissioner of Police Leroy Brumell has said that reports of domestic violence are treated very seriously within the force and is also part of the training courses of ranks.
Despite this, there appear to be an upsurge in the brutal murder of women at the hands of their spouses.
Brumell comments came as calls mount for the Police to do more to protect victims of domestic violence.
Over the past three weeks a number of women were killed by their out of control partner. In some cases, children were also victims.
A story that comes to mind is the brutal murder of two children at Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo by their father Richard Lord and the vicious assault on his wife who reportedly lost her hand and fingers.
Then earlier this month an ex-soldier hammered his wife to death in Mahaica then took his own life.
It did not end then, as another ex-policeman and newspaper vendor went berserk chopping his wife and her three children in Sophia.
The commissioner also responded to the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce’s calls for the Police to be more robust in their response to crime fighting.
Brumell said that the force has intensified its campaign to reduce crime and is currently engaged in stop and search exercises and roadblocks across the country.
