Three-month fogging exercise commence

FoggingGeorgetown: The Vector Control Services of the Health Ministry began a series of fogging activities on this week in Georgetown and its environs.

The exercise is to kill the adult mosquitoes which carry diseases. Speaking with this publication, Director of the Vector Control Services, Reyad Rahaman, noted that persons have been complaining about a high influx of mosquitoes in their homes and communities.

He said the fogging is a continuous exercise that the department will be undertaking, and there will be a few more spraying activities throughout the year around the country.

According to him, to ensure that the fogging exercise is most effective, residents in the targeted areas are reminded to open their windows to allow the fog mist into their homes to kill the adult mosquitoes.

He added that to avoid any health problems, residents should cover all drinking water and secure all food items (uncooked and cooked) to prevent possible contamination; secure all domestic animals and poultry; and keep persons who suffer from asthmatic conditions, young children and the elderly away from the direct flow of fog.

The fogging will commence 17:30 daily until June 11 in the following areas: East and West Ruimveldt, Alexander Village, West La Penitence, Albouystown, Charlestown, Werk-en-Rust, Newburg, Wortmanville, Kitty, Section K Campbellville, Newtown, Turkeyen, Bel Air, Bel Air Village, Bel Air Gardens, Subryanville, Campbellville, Oleander Gardens, Ogle, Sophia, Queenstown, Festival City, Meadow Brook, Guyhoc Gardens, and Shirley Field Ridley Square/Roxanne Burnham Gardens.

Citizens are also urged to always sleep under mosquito nets so as to prevent mosquito-borne diseases.
