Three die in vehicular accident

Trincity: Three young women from Carenage are dead following a vehicular crash along the Churchill-Roosevelt Highway, after a maxi taxi collided head on with a dump truck.

Dead are 23-year-old Alisha Noel, 29-year-old Melissa Dehere and 17-year-old Alyia Charles.

Police reports indicate that shortly after 10 pm Tuesday night, the women contacted their friend, maxi driver Tom Daniel, to take them home. After meeting the young women, Daniel agreed to take two other persons to their Piarco Road home before proceeding to Carenage.

On reaching the Trincity Mall intersection on the highway, Daniel lost control of the vehicle, which struck a light pole, crossed the median and slammed into a dump truck driven by Lincoln Boodoo.

Noel and Dehere died on the spot, while Charles succumbed to her injuries at hospital.

Boodoo, Daniel and one teenaged passenger in the truck were treated and discharged, while another teenager who was an occupant in the truck remains hospitalised.

The road fatality figure for 2011 now stands at 74, compared to 86 for the same period in 2010.
