Three die in Couva accident

Port of Spain; A head on collision between a truck and a car on Rivulet Road Couva yesterday afternoon around 3pm claimed the lives of three men. Dead are Anstey Payne Jr. 25, of Railway Road Califonia, and Keston Thorpe,19 of Teelucksingh Street, East Califonia. The third occupant Don Patrick Smith, 56, of Fyzabad was taken to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The three men were heading home from work and Payne is believed to have been the driver of the vehicle.  

The men were in a Hyundai Accent Car heading west along Rivulet Road when the car crashed into the three ton truck. The truck was driven by Ibrahim Hassanali, who said he tried to avoid the car but realized it was heading straight towards his truck. Ansylla Payne sister of Anstey Payne, said her brother was the owner of "Molecular Movers Company Limited' a material moving business, the two other occupants were his employees. She said Anstey was also a second year student at the University of the West Indies where he was majoring in Biology and Chemistry. Sadly the accident occurred just about 500 meters away from Payne's apartment.  According to figures provided by Arrive Alive, the road fatality figure now stands at 43.
